The launch of IKEA Furniture and Home Decor will take place in phases, with the official website www.ikea.pa and the e-commerce platform serving as the first point of contact for Panamanian households, a logistics hub and pickup location in Zona Uno, a compact-format store in Altaplaza, and a mid-sized store with a distribution center in Metropark.

IKEA Furniture and Home Decor continues to make progress on its entry into Panama in partnership with Sarton Group, the brand’s franchisee, with the confirmation of the first locations that will be part of the project’s phased rollout in the country.

The commercial rollout will be phased, with an initial phase supported by e-commerce and a pickup center in Zona Uno; a compact-format IKEA store in Altaplaza, which will bring the brand’s in-store experience closer to customers; and a subsequent phase in Metropark, where plans call for a medium-format store alongside a larger-capacity distribution center.

This new step is part of a phased rollout process in which the official website www.ikea.pa will be the first place to discover IKEA and, as e-commerce becomes available, the primary point of commercial contact with Panamanian households.

Through the online platform, customers will be able to discover IKEA’s furniture and home decor offerings, explore an initial selection of the product range, and gradually gain access to different ways to shop and all of IKEA’s services. Just as the project is being developed, the rollout of the product range will be gradual: little by little, Panamanian households will be able to explore the breadth of IKEA’s offerings and its products tailored to different needs, lifestyles, and budgets.

IKEA’s arrival in Panama is not viewed as a one-time initiative, but rather as a long-term project. The company is working to develop the capabilities needed to establish a clear, accessible, and reliable presence in the country, combining technology, logistics, services, customer service, operational processes, and future physical spaces connected to the online experience.

Zona Uno, the logistics hub for IKEA’s first commercial phase in Panama

At Zona Uno, IKEA will have an initial logistics hub to support e-commerce through its official website, www.ikea.pa, and the gradual development of its omnichannel operation in Panama. This location will include an EMPU, an IKEA external pickup point for certain orders placed through digital and telephone channels. In a later phase, it will also be able to support orders related to the Altaplaza operation. Its role will be to connect the e-commerce platform with the physical operations needed to prepare orders and allow customers to pick up certain purchases made through digital channels. It will also support the development of the home delivery services planned for this first phase.

Zona Uno is not conceived as an IKEA store, but rather as an essential part of the infrastructure that will enable customers to begin their online shopping and gradually expand their delivery and pickup options. In this way, the initial customer relationship with IKEA can extend beyond a single physical location and reach customers through a connected experience.

Altaplaza will bring the IKEA in-store experience to Panamanian homes

In a later phase, IKEA plans to open a compact-format store at Altaplaza. This space will be designed to bring IKEA’s vision to life through inspiring settings, furniture, and home decor, a curated selection of products, planning services, and integration with digital channels.

The store will allow customers to see, touch, and try out products, better understand how IKEA works, and receive assistance in finding solutions that suit their homes and budgets. At the same time, the website and app will provide access to a wider selection and make it easier to combine in-store visits with online shopping.

Altaplaza will therefore play a key role within IKEA’s initial ecosystem in Panama: it will bring inspiration, expert knowledge, and the brand experience closer to customers, while Zona Uno will support the preparation and pickup of orders placed through the digital channel.

Metropark, a subsequent phase to expand the experience and logistics capacity

In a later phase of the project, IKEA plans to develop a new phase at Metropark that will combine a mid-sized store with a distribution center.

This store will expand IKEA’s in-store experience in Panama, offering a more comprehensive range of inspiration, product displays, planning, shopping, and services, all seamlessly connected to IKEA’s digital channels. The distribution center will strengthen the project’s logistics capacity and support the gradual growth of the omnichannel operation, the development of e-commerce, and the steady expansion of the product assortment and services.

A progressive, omnichannel presence

The combination of these three locations follows the same logic: to build a gradual, flexible, and connected presence, in which the official website and e-commerce will serve as the initial foundation of the business relationship, while logistics capabilities and physical spaces will progressively expand the IKEA experience in Panama.

IKEA’s expansion in the country is based on an omnichannel vision. The goal is for customers to engage with the brand in a simple and flexible way, combining the convenience of digital channels with the pickup, delivery, support, inspiration, and personal touch of physical stores.

Launching a project of this nature requires coordinating multiple capabilities simultaneously: the technology platform, e-commerce operations, logistics services, delivery and pickup, customer service, team training, operational processes, and the preparation of future physical brand touchpoints.

Therefore, IKEA will continue to share new milestones as the project progresses and as each phase is ready to deliver an experience aligned with what people expect from the brand.

A proposal based on Democratic Design

IKEA Furniture and Home Decor’s proposal is based on Democratic Design, a principle that combines form, function, quality, sustainability, and affordability.

Through this approach, IKEA seeks to offer furniture and home decor designed for a wide range of people, lifestyles, and budgets.

For IKEA, a good price must go hand in hand with design, utility, and trust. That’s why the brand’s value proposition also rests on functionality, quality, durability, warranties, clear services, and options for choosing how to purchase, receive, or assemble products.

IKEA’s ambition is to help create more functional, comfortable, and personal homes with products that meet the real needs of everyday life. In Panama, IKEA aims to become an inspiring, accessible, and reliable option for those looking to improve their homes while staying within their budget.

A long-term project

Zona Uno, Altaplaza, and Metropark represent IKEA’s first steps in Panama as part of a long-term project. Each location will play a different yet complementary role in making the brand more accessible, simplifying the shopping experience, and gradually strengthening service capacity.

Building on these initial locations, the company will continue to develop new ways to bring its offerings to more households across the country, always in a gradual manner and in line with market developments.

IKEA is coming to Panama with the ambition of building a lasting relationship with the country, its customers, its employees, and its communities.

The confirmation of these locations represents a new step in a process that will continue to unfold in an orderly manner. The company will continue to share new milestones through its official channels as the project progresses.
